Sport Routes on The Slab

The Slab in the Flatirons has had quite a makeover. With help from the FlatIrons Climbing councils, an ambitious few have put a charge back into Boulder sport climbing. This long climb is named Pen 15, 5.13b. When I was up there I saw Matt Samet and Ted Lanzano red point it. And even more impressive feat was watching Paul Glover barely miss the red point, BAREFOOT. Isabella and the dreaded pirate hook, AAAARRRGGG.

Alot is happening, the biggest being Casey and I will be tying the knot. Very excited for our family to be legit and happy. Isabella is growing like a weed, in more ways than one. We have conversation, and she is able to let me know her feelings, which makes things less frustrating for her, and her parents.

My shoulder is getting stronger, and less painful every week. Hoping for a great Spring, it has kicked off quite nice with some great Weekends in Eldo, bought myself some gear and that his been a blast, and a rope that may actually hold a fall. My old rope people feared like the plague. I'll upload some pics soon, and if anyone actually read this, thanks for visiting, and I hope to update once a week as the weather is getting better, and so many great things to come.

Well, I did it again. I got back into bouldering, and within two weeks of trying to get into bouldering shape, I tore my rotator cuff. Super loud this time. And of course it was in a gym. So my trip to Hueco, first time in like 8 years is probably done.

But, I'm not that bummed out. I know now that I have to be quite cognitive of my overall health. So I am grateful for the opportunity to get in all around better shape. I may go see a doctor. But for now ice, and running. And that is what I am going to do right now.

Isabella and Casey are doing well, I have to make double sure I don't project this injury omn them. Till next time, WARM UP FIRST!!!!

Hello peeps,

Well its been really cold lately. I've been working a few days a week in 5 degree weather. Its ridiculous. Glad I left printing for construction. But the light is @ the end of the tunnel. Some good projects are coming up. So me happy. Been gym climbing a fair bit. Trying to get back into bouldering shape. It takes along time for your body to contort to bouldering power. But it is slowly happening. Man I'm ready for spring.

Casey and Isabella are doing well, but we are all doing overtime, between daycare, school, and both of us working, HELLO. Any day or night we have together is wonderful. AAhhh the holidays, I must admit, not really a fan. Seems like alot of over consumption. Don't tell Casey that, she loves this stuff.

So Happy Holidays to all, and to all a good %$$%&* night. See you Jan. 2. When it all get s back to normal.

I got snowed out of work on Mon., Tues.? I drove above Boulder to Green Mountain. Beautiful Day, Although everything was fairly wet. But an enjoyable day. Seems like there could be some more development there. The hike keeps the crowds away.

Late day Friday I decided to go to Eldo for a little bouldering. I was w/ Isabella, so The Gill boulder on the far west end of the park would be perfect. As I warmed up, Isabella wanted nothing to do w/ being strapped in to her car seat. So I picked her up out of her car seat and stood her up next to the boulder. WOW. Kids love this stuff. Climbing really does come naturally. As a 1 year old she got it. Or I think she got it...

Been along time since i've posted anything, duh. Although I was climbing a fair amount, then took a vaca tp upstate Michigan. HELLO. Lots of fishing, drinking and smoking cigs, yes you can smoke cigs in the bars there, terrible for your health, great for personel decision.

I'll post some footage of some vid I took up at Bell Buttress. Going to the Ghetto today, get some fitness back, then back to Bell for a few sessions, then Eldo should be coming into season. Really want to tick off some of the classics that have thwarted me in the past. Stay tuned for more exciting RockyPhotos.

Great day @ easter rock, trying the traditional routes... Well not really trying, Greg Miller and Lucas Hill crushed an old Dan Hare route called Rain Shadow, 12.b. So cool. Testament to Dan Hare, this is a excellent route, good gear an real bouldery, dam cool for mid 80's.

"Dead" show

Went and saw the most recent incarnation of The Grateful Dead. I've been very hesitant to go to any types of shows like this. I really don't like jam bands, but for some reason I really like The Grateful Dead. I saw like 40 shows back when Jerry Garcia was alive. In the end it was quite sad. Don't do hard drugs... So, my girlfriend, Casey real;ly wanted to go, so we ponied up, layed down 100 bucks. I must say we had a great time. Maybe it was the nose bleed seats, maybe it was the awesome weather, maybe, maybe, maybe. Whatever. The band sounded great. Try things out of the ordinary, you might like it, Mikey! AAHHHH, dirty hippies.

I love this place. good bouldering, nice camping, fairly close drive. I haven't used my manual camera for a while. The pictures were less than perfect, much less. Little photoshop, and there palatable. I urge everyone to check this place out. But be cool to the locals, climbers and non-climbers. Nice little community.

Long time no writing, it's been quite a ride. Isabella is growing like crazy, and thats an amazing thing. The funny thing about fatherhood is how absolute things are, crying, hungry, wet, its there time. No time to create some excuse. You are a DAD. It's wonderful, overwhelming, and so rewarding. It looks like Saturday climbing time is going to open up, but in the mean time, some pics of the fam,, and of my super special dinner, the "Super Bowl Special".. Let's just say the pork falls off the bone, "you can cut it with your fork" please, I say. Recipe to follow.

Great time, friendly foke, funny story.

So lunch break I go to flag bouldering, checking out new areas, i go to an area across the street from nook rocks. mostly warm-ups, really nice rocks. i get bored and venture further east, and theres ghetto like slots w/ some chalk on them.. Pretty cool. What I really notice is all the trash, close to a 100 cans and botles, well i need to get back to work, so i plan on hitting up the area later that dat for the FTB.

Whew, long story, So I head back up w/ Casey and Bella later that night for the festivities, we go on a little hike to get this trash, as i get to the area theres 5-8 upper teens partying, beers guitar, some of my favorite things. the fam stays behind a bit, while i scramble down to clean up abit.

Now the fun part, as i'm cleaning up, party folk start to slide there empty cans down the slots, and heckly me, something about heres anickel, hers a dime, then they chuck a empty case box of
mgd at me.

Well, i'm hot a bit dirty and a bit pissed, here i am cleaning trash up for the good of man, and these punx are showering me, thinking i'm collecting them for some maddog. I storm up the slab, 5.2 x chimneying, i see in there eyes there scared at what i'm gonna do, then a pine branch rips ahole in my bag and lets go 3 bottles, as they smash down the slope, like hundreds had before, we all met eyes.

I could almost see they felt bad for me. I almost got mad, then I laughed it off, and said, "Hey, we all gotta litter sometimes." They looked at me like I was a bit crazy, and then stuffed my already packed plastic bag w/ empties. And thanked me for cleaning up. As I looked at them, I really saw myself in them, and that is how social conscience is made, usually through mistakes. We're punx at heart, but we need to do our part to keep these lands open to do whatever makes us happy.

On the climbing side of things, I'm hooked on Chip Phillips online Flagstaff guide. The obscure problems on that sight are a welcome friend to an early morning warrior. I've spent alot of time up there, but not in like five years. So it's been a blast heading up there and trying new problems. Thanks again to everyone. Oh yeah, Isabella needs a change, again. One of my favorite parts of climbing is finding virgin stone. This last couple of weeks, Ive I been lucky to have a few days to get out and play on some fresh rock.
The first pic is a new route wayne crill is working on in eldo. And the other pics are some new problems at Gross Res. The first ones being a sweet block with nice crimps, (holy shit, they stayed on) and the latter being a great problem called "ski tracks", or "owed to bubba." In honor of steve d. . If this problem was in bo canyon, it would have three bolts on it, and secretely, bubba would have neatly removed them. So far excellent weather this spring. Hi everyone, and goodbye.

Saturday was a beautiful day out at Carter Lake. I forgot how brutal bouldering can be on the body. Two hours in and I was toast.
